My Great Grandfather, Gustavus Umberham, was Keeper of the Algoma Light from 1901 until 1913 when he drown in Lake Michigan only a few miles south of this light. In his memory, I activated this light on April 14, 2007 during the Spring Lights Contest. This small light isn't as impressive as many but it has more meaning to me than any other. I used my Yaesu FT-857DÂ and a LDG Z 100 Autotuner running 80 Watts into two hamsticks in a dipole configuration, at 18 feet up. It was a wonderful day. |
