The lighthouse was built on the western cape of Skaftoe Island in 1883 as a combination of Lighthouse and home for two light keeper families. The lantern was situated in the attic facing west. The light was in use until 1938. A new automatic lighthouse was built 400 m north: Islandsberg (New) SWE 203.

To reach the point one has to walk 1 km across the moors and rocky terrain. Access by boat is only possible when the sea is calm and the forecast is stable.
