One goal of the ARLHS is to honor the maritime purposes of the world's illuminated marine aids to navigation present and past. Time takes a toll on inactive light structures causing many of them to become historic. We do our best to locate the original positions of these lights in the WLOL. Happily, some inactive marine lights find new homes well away from their original locations. For these special cases, the WLOL catalogs the original ATON location for DXpedition and historical reference plus the current 'moved to' location as two distinct ARLHS identifiers differing only in suffix.
